What does MBA stand for anyway?
MBA stands for Master of Business Administration and is considered a professional degree. MBAs typically take around two years to complete, but can vary widely depending on the student’s particular situation. Many business schools have accelerated MBA programs that allow students to complete the MBA program quicker than the usual 2 year MBA. Executive MBA (EMBA) programs are geared toward existing executives and managers and allow them to complete an MBA while still working full time.
American business schools date back to the late nineteenth century with the establishment of the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania and the Tuck School at Dartmouth. Wharton, still one of the world’s most prominent business schools, has evolved since its founding in 1881 to offer 19 specializations, including an individualized major and over 250 faculty members in over 11 academic disciplines. They also offer dual degrees as it is common for one to combine an MBA with a relevant field of study like law (JD) or medicine (MD).
