What Does ISP Stand For?

ISP stands for “Internet Service Provider”, which are companies that provide internet access to consumers. ISPs have been around since the beginning of the internet, providing internet access via phone lines, but today broadband access via cable modems and DSL have become more widespread.

While ISPs traditionally just offered internet access, many ISPs now offer e-mail accounts and web storage as well.

Comcast, Verizon, and Earthlink are just a few of the more popular and prevalent ISPs in the United States today.
